Philosophy & Expectations

Greenville Technical College creates economic security by transforming lives through access to services that consistently surpass student and business expectations. Good service is an expectation. Standards of Service Excellence

Standards of Service Excellence are behaviors and practices that extend from Greenville Technical College's Standards of Behavior. Greenville Technical College adopted the Service Excellence Philosophy and Expectations.

Additionally, the 2014-2015 Faculty Senate adopted the following model for all faculty in the Learning and Workforce Development Division. This model is the product of collaboration between the Faculty Senate, a designated faculty work group, and the Center for Professional Excellence.

Faculty Model:

Communication
  • I will take time to communicate expectations for academic and professional standards of conduct as they apply to both students and faculty.
  • I will show a sincere interest in and respect for students by striving to know and address each by name.
  • I will be available and responsive to students during posted office hours, as well as before and after class whenever possible.
Collaboration
  • I will take responsibility for understanding the college's policies, processes, and programs to advise students effectively.
  • I will proactively seek out college resources and endorse services that can most appropriately meet our students' needs and enrich their college experience.
Forward Thinking
  • I will be positive and open to learning new methodologies, technologies, instructional formats, and improvements to curriculum and classroom strategies.
  • I will seek methods to assist students with overcoming barriers to learning.
Professionalism
  • I will show my enthusiasm and appreciation for teaching and learning by being courteous and respectful of all students.
  • I will model professional conduct for students by:
    • fostering an environment that welcomes diversity and inclusion,
    • being on time for scheduled meetings and classes,
    • speaking well of the college and its faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • I will demonstrate fairness and consistency toward all students.
Professionalism - Accountability
  • I will take ownership of all my actions.
  • I will uphold the expectations for my colleagues to abide by for living by our Standards of Service Excellence to fulfill the college's mission to ''…commit to seeing that every interaction with a student, a potential student, a member of the community, or another employee results in a positive experience.''
