Full-Time Faculty Position Description

Greenville Technical College's full-time faculty members are expected to provide quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations. As professional educators responsible for providing effective instruction, full-time faculty are also responsible for assessing student learning outcomes. In addition, they are expected to contribute to program development and instructional innovation; advise students and support student success; participate in college life and relevant community-oriented projects; and actively engage in professional development activities, which increase knowledge of best practices and enhance teaching skills.

Faculty Workloads

Full-time teaching faculty are employed for a minimum of 40 hours per work week. Teaching faculty are normally employed for 39 weeks (nine months), encompassing the Fall and Spring Semesters. The summer semester stands alone and is not a guaranteed employment period. Summer employment is determined by course availability and enrollment. Faculty members who have a full load for the summer are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per work week. 

Academic deans, assistant deans, department heads/chairs, and academic program directors are expected to work during the summer semester. Non-teaching days and non-workdays are identified in the college academic calendar.

Commencement Responsibilities

Faculty are expected to participate in May and December commencement ceremonies, both of which are scheduled non-teaching days. Faculty members are encouraged to wear their own academic regalia.  Regalia is provided for newly hired faculty upon request.
