Student Assistance and Resources (STAR)

STAR Center

The STAR Center provides basic needs support to students through the Caring Corner, the college’s Foundation Emergency Assistance program, and connections to community and government resources.  The Caring Corner is a welcoming space for students to shop for groceries and life necessities, such as hygiene products, household cleaners, and diapers, as well as pick up a Grab and Go snack.  The center can identify additional community resources and assist with SNAP applications.

Financial assistance is available through the STAR Center, which manages the college’s Foundation emergency funding program to eligible students who must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Must have completed at least one semester at GTC
  • Must have a current-year FAFSA
  • Must be in good SAP standing
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours for the current term)
  • Must not have a past debt to the college from a previous term and/or year, cannot be in default on student loans, and cannot have any registration prohibiting restrictions.

Students meeting these requirements may complete an Emergency Assistance application.  It is suggested to review the types of assistance available before applying.  Documentation is required for emergency assistance.

The STAR Center provides students with connections to support services and resources, both at GTC and through local community and governmental organizations.

The STAR Center and the Caring Corner are located on the Barton Campus in the Student Center Building.  The Center prepares food packages for students at the Benson, Brashier, and Northwest campuses, as well as online students.
